INDIGENOUS RIGHTS
Risa’s unique legal practice focuses on the intersections between trade law, environmental law and Indigenous rights.
Her clientele includes First Nations advocacy organizations, rights holders and Tribal Councils.
She is currently engaging with First Nations on what should be included in the Action Plan for the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and exploring which federal laws need to be amended to be consistent with the UN Declaration.
Risa is the ‘go to’ person on the international trade and the rights of Indigenous peoples.
Risa is the author of Toward a Trade and Indigenous Peoples’ Chapter in a Modernized NAFTA CIGI Paper No. 144 and co-edited with Professor John Borrows the leading book on Indigenous Peoples ad International Trade.
